Indian Embassy and Consulates

Passport renewal, OCI, birth registration and emergencies.

India has an Embassy in Berlin and Consulates General in Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich. Which one is responsible depends on the federal state you live in.

Passport renewal

• Apply online on the Passport Seva portal for Indians abroad, then book your appointment.
• Apply in time – renewals can take several weeks, and you need a valid passport for your residence permit.

OCI card

For former Indian citizens and their children. Apply online on the OCI portal.

Birth of a child

Register your child's birth in Germany first (Standesamt), then apply for the Indian passport at the Embassy or Consulate.

Other services

• Attestation of documents, police clearance certificates, power of attorney for matters in India
• Help in emergencies, e.g. if your passport is lost or stolen: report it to the German police first, then contact the Consulate.

Check the website of your responsible mission for opening hours and current procedures.
