Before you fly
Is my degree recognised?
Recognition of Indian degrees and professional qualifications.
Open in the free Doorstep appFor many visas, Germany checks whether your Indian degree is comparable to a German one. Start this early – it can take weeks.
Check your university degree
- Search your university and degree in the anabin database. A university marked "H+" and a degree listed as comparable usually means you are fine.
- If your degree is not listed, apply for a Statement of Comparability at the ZAB (Central Office for Foreign Education). It costs a fee and takes several weeks.
Regulated professions
Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, teachers, lawyers and some engineering jobs are regulated. You need official recognition before you can work in the profession. The Recognition Finder tells you which authority is responsible.
Vocational qualifications
Vocational training (e.g. from an ITI) can also be recognised. Partial recognition gives you 4 points for the Opportunity Card.
Tip: Have certified translations of your mark sheets and degree ready – almost every authority asks for them.
