SIM card

Prepaid SIM cards are easy to get. You need your passport to activate one.

Bank account

You need a German bank account (IBAN) for rent, salary and your blocked account payouts. Many online banks open accounts in minutes.

Electricity and internet

In shared flats this is often included in the rent. If not, you sign up yourself. Internet contracts can take a few weeks to activate, so start early.

Radio licence fee (Rundfunkbeitrag)

Every household pays one fee per flat. In shared flats it is paid once and split.
